1996-2015 Marathon & Beyond

Rich proposed the Marathon & Beyond concept to Human Kinetics in 1996, including elaborate financials. Brian Holding, the manager at HK liked the proposal and it was launched in Jan/Feb 1997. Rich was editor, HK employee Jan Seeley was managing editor and fellow HK employee Linda Bump was publisher. In 1999, HK’s journals’ division finances were hit hard due to losing several strength publications, and HK decided the journal division could no longer continue with the fledgling M&B. When they decided to axe it, so Jan Seeley and Rich Benyo offered to buy it, set up a payment plan with HK, and took it over at the end of 1999. With Rich as publisher and Jan as editor, they managed it throughout its entire run (a total of 114 issues until its final issue, December, 2015).
